Project: Mossbourne Academy
Client: Willmott Dixon
Main Contractor: Willmott Dixon
Architect: Jestico and Whiles
REL has completed the electrical works for the new £10m Mossbourne Academy in south Hackney.
Based on a site of a former school, the new facility in Victoria Park has been designed by architects Jestico & Whiles and is aimed at repeating the success of Mossbourne Community Academy located in the same borough.
The project was delivered in two phases. The first phase involved the conversion of a Grade II listed 19th-century former French Hospital to accommodate the school’s library in the original court room. The second part of the project resulted in a new four-storey block which houses a publically accessible sports hall, dining, performance and specialist teaching facilities.
Willmott Dixon appointed appointed Kershaw/REL to deliver the works, which included installing new lighting, power supplies, data cabling, CCTV, access controls, audio-visual equipment and fire alarms. The project also involved close liaison with English Heritage to ensure the modern M&E package was appropriately installed into the listed property, including sourcing and fitting lighting which was sympathetic to the historic interior.
