REL Building Services is in the running to be named MEP Specialist of the Year at the Construction News Specialists Awards 2020
Construction News’ expert panel of 69 judges – with representatives from each of the top 25 biggest UK contractors – determined the shortlist with the finalists now going through to a second phase to decide the winners.
The nomination follows REL’s most successful year to date, which has seen the business secure several major projects. These include a multi-million-pound M&E package for a new £34m teaching facility at Richmond-upon-Thames College, the full design and installation of building services for a new Business Hub at the University of Hertfordshire, and a major electrical contract for a £120m scheme in London comprising around 145,000 sq ft of office space.
MEP services are delivered by the company’s 55-strong team, who are all directly employed. As a family business, REL provides an environment where everyone feels supported and valued, providing ongoing development and training opportunities for all employees. This has helped the business to achieve a staff retention rate of 95 per cent over the last year.
REL’s managing director, Toby Buckley, said: “As we approach our 70th anniversary, being named a finalist in such a strong and competitive category is testament to the skills and dedication of all our employees. By focusing on specialist sectors and growing organically, we’ve built a business that now partners with leading main contractors and is privileged to be working on impressive new buildings across London and the South East.
“We look forward to the awards ceremony and celebrating with the other finalists.”
Now in their 16th year, the Specialists Awards is the only national event to recognise the outstanding achievements of specialist contractors. The winners will be announced at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane on 25 March 2020
