REL Building Services has completed the electrical works for a new primary school which will offer places to more than 400 children.
Located in Ilford near East London, Al Noor Primary School is the first Muslim-faith school in the local area and the last of six new-build schools to be built under the Education Funding Agency (EFA) School Framework in the Redbridge borough.
Built by Kier, the contemporary three-storey building replaces an existing school and an adjacent pub. Facilities include play areas on the ground floor and a roof-deck.
REL was appointed during the pre-construction stage to help develop the electrical design using Level 2 BIM, prior to being awarded the contract. The scope of works included lighting, small power, data, fire alarms, DDA systems and PV installations.
Toby Buckley, REL’s managing director said: “Our input in the early stages of this project combined with our in-house BIM capabilities enabled us to develop an electrical design and solution that is very energy and cost efficient. This approach also saved time during the installation stage, ensuring all electrical services could be seamlessly integrated with the mechanical elements.”
Ivor Allcock, contracts manager at Kier said: “REL was appointed for this contract as it has demonstrated a high standard of work on other similar projects, including the expansion of a large school in Essex, which was completed last year.
“The specialist knowledge of REL’s technical, design and installation teams ensured we could add value to this project with a highly-efficient electrical solution which was delivered very effectively.”
Kershaw Mechanical Services selected REL for the electrical works.
REL’s expertise in the education sector has seen it pick up a string of contracts for schools and colleges in the South East with 15 completed in the last three years.
