REL has completed an electrical project at intu Lakeside in Essex, which will improve the dining experience at nine restaurants along the Boardwalk leisure area.
Appointed by main contractor Hatmet, REL has helped to transform the outdoor seating areas for each restaurant located alongside the Alexandra Lake.
New pods have been installed with electric louvered roofs, which can open and close dependent on the weather. REL was also responsible for all lighting, music systems, mains distribution and cabling within each pod.
Toby Buckley, REL's managing director, said: "These latest improvements replace traditional parasols with more modern and advanced canopies which will provide diners with a more comfortable, modern environment and cater for all weather."
One of the major challenges of the project was the need to carry out the work at night, so that the restaurants could remain open and operate as normal.
"We had to ensure minimal disruption to the restaurant operators and their customers, explained Toby. "This meant that we couldn't start work until midnight after the restaurants closed and that we ensured the site was clean and operational again by 9am the next morning."
This is the second project REL has completed at intu Lakeside. The team was also appointed to carry out the electrical works for the conversion of the Boardwalk area into restaurants in 2007.
